This so far the best Indo-Chinese food that I ever had. I've been coming back to this place since day 1 - 8 years ago.
Tha Staff and the owner Maria are hospitable and the service is great.
This restaurant does not look like much when you open the door. However, the staff is great and the food even better. Best Chili Chicken in Ontario. I test Chili Chicken / Chicken Chili whenever I visit Chinese Haka Style Food.
my favourite place and first choice in dining out.
its ok i guess since we dont really have much choice so i guess we cant complain its only good for take out u cant really dine in
Lin Garden is amazing!!! Prices: Quite Cheap, Quanitity: You will definately be taking home a doggy-bag (huge portions), Environment: Clean, but cramped, Service (Good)
I became to like Haka food style because of this restaurant
I found this restaurant a few months ago and I go back every month at least once. Its good food and the staff is polite and friendly.
I live down the street, every since they opened (since the cook from Fredericks jumped ship and opened Lin Garden).
I go there often. They have been featured in the Toronto Star (2001 from what i remember) and the Globe and Mail April, 2005.
The dishes you should order:
House Shrimp (this is an absolute must!)
Chilli Chicken (if you're brave, order it spicy...)
Hakka Chow Mein
Pakoras (Chicken or Shrimp)
If you're into chicken balls and sweet & sour pork, this isn't the place for you. Mandarin will be happy to serve you. ;)
Excellent food and even better prices.
Best Chili Chicken in the World if you order this dish you better have you water with you. also there Chicken Pakoras are the most amazing thing you have tasted. Since I have switched jobs to the west end I miss there take out. Was a staple of the IBM Help Desk!
The food is phenomenal at a phenomenally affordable price, but don't expect fancy decor or a pleasant atmosphere. TAKE OUT, don't dine-in. I totally recommend MANCHURIAN FISH & CHILI CHICKEN. Hands down!
The Best chili chicken in TO. I love this place...
The Chilli chicken is amazing. My kids fight over who has taken the bigger portion. The manchurian chow mein is very tasty.
mmm Szechuan Beef
mmm the food there is amazing! better than Fredericks!!! Maria is the best! i'm there at least twice a week! Szechuan beef is the best
Great food, especially the spicy food! Get Chili Chicken, Manchurian Shrimp Fried Rice and Chicken Fried Rice (bland)
very good indo-chinese food
best in town
very nice food
This is our family's favourite restaurant. We go there for almost every family function, and take all our out-of-town guests there. The food is always excellent. We usually order Kanshue green beans, chicken corn soup, vegetable noodles, beef with black bean sauce, chili chicken, mixed vegetables. The service needs improvement.
I have been going there since 1999. Maria is the nicest person and a wonderful host. She will recommend stuff to you and every recommendation has been fabulous! Chili chicken and Hot & Sour soup best I have EVER tasted in all of Ontario and Quebec! Go in with $20-$30 come out with enough food to feed you for two days. No other place can do that. The place is packed for a reason and if you place your order ahead of time you get an extra discount. Happy Eating!
Very good service & food.
people don't know english
Oh the Chili chicken, house shrimp and beef with noodles, yummy
Every time I get sick I eat chili chicken and I get better. What's in that stuff?
amazing, i love da chili chicken-- omg sooo gud
not that bad not that good. but the chili chiken of lucky resturant beats it
I noticed the person who takes the order is Not Friendly, she seem to have bit of an attatitude and see a bit cocky. But the food is good.
I'm addicted too! I think they use some type of opiates in the food, because even when the stomach says "full" i keep trying to eat more!
Yes the girl who answers the phone is CRAZY NOT NICE she is like the SOUP NAZI for Sienfeld But the food is amazing so I just take and order and stand to the side
The people that run this resturant are extremely nice. I dont' where this person get the idea to compare it to the Soup Nazi... For me its more like Cheers ... Its one the best resturants in the city.... Chilli Chicken is one of their best dishes... In many ways i'm glad that so many people love this place... but it sucks when a resturant gets too popular... you loose your seat.... Luckily they know how to treat their regulars....
The food is good but the service is poor, been insulted many a time...
Simply put, AWESOME food, HORRIBLE service, expect no manners whatsoever.
Just take out, don't ever ruin your experience by trying to din in there.
take my word, My family and I tried this 3 times and failed, now we just stick to take out, the chili chicken and Szchuan chicken is excellent.
The waitress would rudely ask "what do you want" and this is not because of her lack of English to use a phrase such as "What would you like to order?", it's just because they are rude and you can see it in their tone and body language too.
The place is also crowded with those who either do not care or can not detect these mistreatments. there's also a guy always standing behind the counter with eyes like bull frog hose only responsibility seems to be staring at the customers who are eating, making sure they pay before they leave!
Once again this has nothing to do with the quality of the food, take out is the only imaginable option for decent people
I don't understand the comments on the service. I have been going to Lin garden since it opened, and one of the things that kept me coming back (apart from the food!) was that Maria would always remember my name, even when months went by between visits. I find the service to be brisk and to the point, but that can be a good thing!
Anyways, we always order are the Chili chicken, Garlic chicken, Hakka noodles, Manchurian vegetable balls (this is what we always ask for but I'm not sure if this is the correct name)
The food is very good (chiliChiken)but the service is very bad. The place is very dirty.
Strange combination of Very good food and complete disrespect!
Take out is the only conceivable option if you want a pleasant experience.
The only person who is half decent in this restaurant among all rude employees is some lady named Maria, and unfortunately her efforts to fake a smile is not enough to make up for the rest of them.
The food on the other hand is very delicious, try taking out the chili chicken or house shrimp.
the food is consistent. The beef and black been sauce is my favourite. no real complaints really. when I go to a restaurant, I go for the food, I'm not too concerned about the service.
This place is very dirty. Food do not taste like before especially with their chilli chicken. I think they have change their chef or maybe the owner. This place is crowded with people who is looking for quantity only not quality!!
This is the worst Chinese restaurant in Toronto so far that I have been to. Their service is extremely poor and they bring out dishes at 15 minutes intervals. For example if you ordered Noodles with Chicken and Chilly Chicken, they will bring one of the two dishes out after 20-25 minutes and then wait again for 15-20 minutes to get your second dish and so on. By that time you have already finished your first dish all by itself and then you will see the chilly chicken coming out. Good luck eating that by itself as well. The staff doesn't know English and have no manners. Its a very croudy restaurant with quantity food but no quality and customer service.
I will never go there again.
Their customer service is extremely bad.
Their food's quality and quantity is good but its a dirty restaurant and they treat you very rudely.
It used to be a better place a couple of months ago but now its extremely croudy and not a good place to dine anymore.
the one thing about toronto i miss when i leave!!!
HONESTLY THE BEST HAKKA (?) FOOD AROUND! chilli chicken A+, house shrimp A+...don't go there for service though, but i cant believe people will stay away from amazing food for bad service.
if i wanted someone to kiss and wipe my ass i would stay away from there but if i want yum foood A+..i actually love their attitute!! its so hilar and honest.
The food is out of this world and I like the service. Maybe they are rude to bad customers!!! I go weekly and some days drive out of my way for their food.
This place has the most-filling, best price-per-value Hakka-style Chinese food around. Yes, it can be dirty, crowded and super busy. This is why I think some other critiques of Lin Garden have had the perception that the staff might be rude or uncaring. The place just is so busy - turning over massive quantities of food and clients. It doesn't surprise me that the staff seem blurry-eyed or impersonal at times.
At $4.95 for a bowl of EXCELLENT hot and sour soup, a GIANT plate of beef chow mein and some chinese tea (this is one of the lunch special options at a set price - between 1130-2pm weekdays, I believe). So if you are going out for a decent, filling lunch at great value - this is a wonderful choice.
Of the half dozen times I have been here service was good (prompt, polite) everytime except once where my party was seated immediately, but waited a very long time for someone to take our order. Once ordered, the food arrived promptly. So, consistency is an issue and I see why the ratings for Lin Garden can vary so dramatically.
Food is good, people are rude.
Love this place but i am from out of town and when i tired to call and ask about delivery , someone yelled no and slammed the phone down on my ear. I mean if you cannot present yourself with common courtesy then why run a service business. or at least buy a damn cordless phone so all i hear is a beep
i was at lin garden on the weekend to try the food that people are talking about was good so i when to try it and i was so surprise to see my plate of chilli chicken with roaches in my plate .then i told the waitress and she was very rude to me ,so i told the boss and the boss was even more rude .i will never go back to that restaurant.they should put in menu chilli roaches ..........i don't know why people do go back there?
Quality too poor, compare to last year...
unreal food for a great price....setting isnt great- neither is service
CHILI CHICKEN IS A MUST
This a really BAD PLACE, i am a veggitarian and we usued to eat at this place for so much time but now theres just too much crowd, and WE ACTUALLY FOUND NON-VEG stuff in our food, THIS PLACE IS BAD AND I WOULD SUE THEM IF i could
I will NEVER EVEN EAT Here and will tell everyone that
Amazing Hakka Food in Town!!!!!
Restaurant isnt the most attractive, but its not that dirty. Whoever made a comment about roaches is a snake liar.
Service is hurried and rude, but it is somewhat amusing and adds to the experience.
Chili Chicken is perfect!!!! A+ Green Beans are also delicious.
very good food.
very good food, very affordable. Was recommeded there and always go back. Lemon chicken (i don't use the sauce) i like it crispy and tasty! chili fish (not too spicy), shrimp and chicken fried rice. I think they are to the point, which they should be to get your order right, and not keep people waiting. I have never found them to be rude at all. I actually think they are nice just getting their job done and also because they are so busy. They are so busy because the food is sooo good and people keep going back. I'm going there today after work which is why i came to the site to confirm the phone number.
Came here for dinner for the first time with friends. The food is cheap but the flavour is cheap as well. They have the taste of non-authentic indian hakka food. And we have tried many other better places. There are far better Hakka restaurants in Scarborough.
Pathetic service. Had to remind 4 times for the chinese tea, which is not even free. The waitress was mannerless. She almost threw the plate on our table. The food portion has reduced considerably from the first time we went. Overall not a place I'll go again.
excellent excellent excellent!
Lin Garden has excellent food at a great price.
My family has been going there for many years.
I love Lin Garden.
Good food, very cheap prices, BUT VERY UNKEPT RESTAURANT, EXTREMELY POOR SERVICE. I still go there (esp. for take out) but leaving a comment here hoping the management will do something about the negatives. Since the restaurant is so busy it seems they have become cocky with time.
i love it. its awesome. we get it for lunch atleast once every week!
Very good affordable food. I go there now almost every week.
Very bad service. Had to wait for 20 minutes for a table. The server choose to serve others who arrived after us. After reminding the server that we had 2 kids who were hungry, they said that the kitchen was busy. Inspite of that the group that arrived after us were half way through their dinner. 45 minutes sitting at the table we decided to leave. The server/owner had no apologies . Any ways the food is not that great and will not be returning.
Their food is excellent. But their service is the worst, worst, WORST. I do not know how some resaturant can be that low class in service. They will bring entree first , then soup....absolutely clueless. If you want to talk to them ,they will pretend like they do not understand English........If you want to enjoy their food....order....eat...and leave.......do not expect to have good time there at all.
How the hell did Lin Garden Restaurant gets a high rating when their service are below standard? The food is not good. I understand that the customers get frustrated that they don't get treated well after being seated. I hope that everyone should be treated equally as they pay for the food that they ordered and it's doesn't come for free.
WAKE UP -- LIN GARDEN --- TRY TO SMELL THE ROSES AND IMPROVE ON YOUR SERVICE.
Poor Customer Service. Need to improve on Customer Service. Food is medicore. I would suggest to everyone to try other food in other restaurant. Very Poor Service, I dont think that Ill go back there again.
Food is becoming worse, not to mention the Customer Service is at it's lowest point. VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE -- Waiters and Waitresses are rude, obnoxious and have bad manners when serving the customers. Everyone should be treated equally whether we are ordering food for take out or dine in.
Management should read all the comments written about them and definitely should make an effort to improve on CUSTOMER SERVICE --- LIN GARDEN. Over the years, you guys will lose a lot of customers that your business will go bust and don't take it lightly as many customers read these kind of comments to see if they can eat at your place or not.
Their food is great and their service is practical, sometimes a bit surly, esp on a busy Friday night. Kind of like Schwartz's in Montreal -- don't expect smiley faces. The place has character and the owner is a nice man who puts in a lot of long hours. Enjoy the food and accept the place for what it is. Is it possible that some of the nasty reviews are written by jealous competitors?
Excellent value and great food. Being in the business that long must mean they are doing something right.
They are the soup nazis of hakka cooking! Awesome place... and i expect the attitude!
If people want to be pampered go to a franchise with garbage food like you are used to.. boston pizza, shoeless joes, east side marios etc.
LIN GARDEN food is mediocre and becoming worse. The competitors of other Indian Hakka Chinese Restaurant are far better than LIN GARDEN.
CUSTOMER SERVICE NEED MAJOR IMPROVEMENTS eventhough they've been in this business for so many years. I guess that they must have a loyal, dedicated customers that come there to have food.
I hope that LIN GARDEN's owner must improve their business and customer service to bring in more customers. Wait staffs are not even courteous and I beleive that they must be making basic pay that's why the wait staff don't care about CUSTOMER SERVICE....
A WORD OF ADVICE --- NEED MAJOR IMPROVEMENTS IN CUSTOMER SERVICE OTHERWISE YOUR BUSINESS WILL GO BAD.........
Read this review first.
You do not go to an Asian restaurant catered to Asians expecting great customer service. The food is excellent no matter what the other posters say. I have gone here since it opened and the food has had the same quality and quantity. For the people complaining in CAPS about customer service; go to The Keg or something if you want that. If you have ever eaten at an actual Chinese restaurant, Lin Garden is pretty mild. The servers don't whip the dishes at the table (like most places downtown). Yes they do not bring out the food in the traditional order unless you specifically ask (duh!).
Also people complained about other customers being served first; its called reservations and pre-ordering so they show up and eat in as the food is ready. Additionally, this is not a national franchise but a family ran restaurant. Thus with any family run places they will give you attitude if you are whiny or demanding when they are busy. The bottom line is that they make a profit enough with their food without having to cater and coddle people. If you can't stand that then don't eat there.
Also, note the amount of ALL CAPS RAGE in the negative comments and you can discern the intelligence of that commentary.
Maybe, you're the owner or the management of LIN GARDEN that's why you're writing about it. I do understand that they're family-run business but you can, at least show some customer service whether you're paying customers or not. It's called "COURTESY" for a lack of better word. Anyways, we all need to have good food to enjoy and have fun.
good food lots of it!!
Honestly speaking...food at lin garden is tasteless esp their Chilli chicken. Only good thing is quantity. What's the use of quantity if the food is inconsistent and bad. This place is for cheap people who don't know what is real hakka food.
I wish the delivered
Went into Lin Garden today (Tuesday July 10th at 6:00pm) to pick up dinner and ordered two dishes (unfortunately), Hakka noodles and Manchurian noodles -brought them home, only to open the bag and discover a ungodly stench coming from the noodles. The noodles had an extremely moist texture and seemed to have a certain slime to them. The owner linked the rotten noodles to the fact that it is summer and it is hot outside, after this first explanation he quickly changed his mind suggesting more ridiculous alternatives. i.e. it was likely a single noodle that had gone bad (a single noodle? that spawn across both boxes of noodles?!) They insisted on profusely arguing that it was a simple error and attempted to assure us they had gotten rid of the 'bad' batch of noodles. Just a disgusting experience all together.
